Iemitsu Tokugawa

Iemitsu Tokugawa who was the 3rd Shogun between 1623 and 1651 had finished establishing most of the basis of Tokugawa Bakufu’s government system.

Spending about half a century to have monopolized the far overwhelming militaristic power, the regime which wouldn’t let Japan be in a century and a half long Warring States Period again was established.

Bakufu possessed a quarter of the whole domain in Japan, and the remainder was mostly allocated to the feudal lords who were given the domains having more than or equal to the specified rice production level.

Hatamoto and Gokenin were the Samurai leaders who had the domains having less than the specified rice production level, only Hatamoto had the privilege of meeting Shogun in person.

All the feudal lords in Japan had to leave their wives and children at their mansions in Edo, and they had to repeat the pattern of living at their mansions in Edo for a year and going back to live at the castles of their domains for a year.
