Kango Trade

During the period of the double dynasty, Bakufu’s offices weren’t functioning as much as they were supposed to.

During which time, China had trouble not being able to quell the pirates from Tsushima Island and Iki Island called, “Wa Ko” who had been violently acting in Shangdong Peninsula and Korean Peninsula.

As China requested Yoshimitsu Ashikaga quell Wa Ko, he succeeded in keeping Wa Ko under strict control of Bakufu.

Having seen his competence, China recognized him as the king of Japan, and they started issuing him the trading pass called, “Kango”.

Because Yoshimitsu Ashikaga made a tremendous amount of fortune by trading with China, he and Muromachi Bakufu turned extremely wealthy and marvelously prosperous.
